Terms of Service
Last updated 31 July 2026
These terms govern your use of The Sev-1 Database ("the Service"), reachable at thesev1database.com. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. What the Service is
The Sev-1 Database is a technical reference for PostgreSQL operators. It publishes error explanations, runbooks, glossary entries, configuration references, and lessons. Some material is free; some is available only to Pro subscribers.
The content is educational. Every SQL snippet and captured output is reproduced in a lab, but your database, version, data, and workload differ from ours. Nothing here is professional advice for your specific system. You are responsible for testing any command in a safe environment before running it against data you care about.
2. Accounts
You need an account to sign in and to hold a Pro subscription. You must give an accurate email address, keep your password secure, and are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to use the Service.
3. The Pro subscription
Pro is a paid subscription, billed monthly or annually through our payment processor, Stripe. Prices are shown on the pricing page before you buy. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal; cancellation stops future renewals and you keep Pro access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Refunds and cancellation are described in our Refunds & Cancellation Policy. We may change prices for future billing periods; changes never apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.
4. Acceptable use
Pro content is licensed for your own use. Please don't scrape, resell, or redistribute the paid material, share your account to circumvent payment, attempt to break the access controls, or use the Service to attack or overload our infrastructure. We may suspend accounts that do.
5. Intellectual property
The written explanations, structure, and captured lab evidence are ours. PostgreSQL, its documentation, and its error messages belong to the PostgreSQL Global Development Group and are cited as reference. You keep ownership of anything you send us, such as a support message.
6. Disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any data loss, downtime, or indirect or consequential damage arising from your use of the guidance or the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
7. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, announced on the site. You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end access for a serious or repeated breach of these terms.
8. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's principal place of business, and disputes will be handled by the courts with jurisdiction there. Questions about these terms go through our contact page.
